Meet "Bubba"
Having worked at the Humane Society for 6 years, I've come across some pretty feisty and personality-challenged dogs but never had I been bitten on the toe by a Beagle. Until Bubba! Bubba had been allowed to run loose for a long, long time until another dog was picked up and Bubba was, too. I got in his kennel to see how his temperament was and yes, he bit my toe! Twice. I couldn't believe it! I told him he wasn't getting away with it and he'd like me if it was the last thing I did and I had to keep buying shoes. He wasn't leash-trained. He wasn't "people" oriented. He didn't like other dogs. But he just presented me with a challenge. He was actually at the shelter nearly 6 months. He was part of 2 Adoption Days. At the third Adoption Day, I had said if nobody wanted to take him home and at least gave him a chance, then he was going home with me. When our Adoption Day was over, I stood there; looking at a guy that was just ever going to have any other options than to get in my car and go home. He did. Today, he's really not much on people, not much on other dogs but he doesn't bite my toes anymore either. Because he was ignored for so long, he may never get used to anyone but me. That's fine. He's my buddy... or should I say my Bubba.
